\u00a0The timeline won’t refresh, posts show “something went wrong,” or the app sits on a blank screen. When Twitter not loading is the problem, the first thing to settle is whether X is down for everyone or whether the fault is on your side.<\/p>

Check if X is down right now<\/strong><\/h2>

Run x.com through CheckSiteStatus. The check comes from outside your network, so the answer doesn’t depend on your phone, browser, or Wi-Fi. If it shows X as reachable and your feed still won’t load, the problem is local. If it shows X as unreachable, the outage is real and nothing you change will fix it.<\/p>

Report volume is the second signal. A handful of complaints is normal background noise. When thousands of people report problems within the same few minutes, X is almost certainly having an incident. Most X outage today searches spike for exactly this reason: people see an error, assume it’s them, and go looking for confirmation.<\/p>

What X’s 2026 outages looked like<\/strong><\/h2>

X has had several large outages this year, and they share a pattern: sudden, loud, and short.<\/p>

January 16.<\/strong> Reports passed 2,000 in about 20 minutes and peaked at nearly 75,000. Users saw a blank x.com on desktop and mobile, a 503 error on refresh, and a connection timeout on twitter.com redirects. Some DMs failed and Grok ran slowly. It lasted roughly an hour to an hour and a half.<\/p>

February 16.<\/strong> Two waves hit in one day. The first began around 8:02 AM ET, lasted more than an hour, and peaked at around 41,000 US reports and nearly 12,000 in the UK. A second wave followed around 1:22 PM ET with over 24,000 US reports. People saw “something went wrong,” posts and profiles failed to load, and even the @Support account was unreachable. Cloudflare and AWS showed no major problems at the time, which suggests the fault was inside X.<\/p>

March 18.<\/strong> Reports topped 14,000 around 11 AM ET, climbed above 26,000 on one US graph, and fell below 500 after about an hour. The app wouldn’t load or returned error messages, with hotspots in Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago.<\/p>

None of the three came with an official explanation. That matters in practice: if you’re waiting for X to say what’s wrong, you may wait a long time.<\/p>

X server status: where to look<\/strong><\/h2>

X has no public status page aimed at everyday users. It does run a developer status page for its API, and that page showed degraded performance during the January incident, but it is written for developers and doesn’t explain what broke in plain terms. For a consumer-facing answer, an independent check and user report volume are faster. Why X stops loading<\/strong><\/h2>

Platform-side failures.<\/strong> The most common pattern in 2026. The site returns errors for everyone at once, often with a 503 or “something went wrong” message. If you’re not sure what a code like that means, our HTTP and browser error codes guide<\/a><\/strong><\/em> decodes them.<\/p>

Rate limits and API trouble.<\/strong> Heavy use or a failing API call can break your timeline while the rest of the site works.<\/p>

App bugs.<\/strong> A broken update can crash X on one phone model or OS version while the servers are healthy.<\/p>

Your connection.<\/strong> A weak signal, a flaky router, or a DNS problem can make X look down when it isn’t.<\/p>

Browser clutter.<\/strong> On desktop, extensions, stale cache, and ad blockers cause plenty of “Twitter not loading” complaints.<\/p>

Quick fixes if X isn’t down for everyone<\/strong><\/h2>
  1. Refresh the page or force-close and reopen the app.<\/li>
  2. Switch networks, for example from Wi-Fi to mobile data.<\/li>
  3. Update the X app.<\/li>
  4. On desktop, open a private window to rule out extensions and cache.<\/li>
  5. Log out and back in if the feed loads but actions fail.<\/li>
  6. Try another device. If it works there, the first device is the problem.<\/li><\/ol>

    When other platforms are struggling too<\/strong><\/h2>

    If X, YouTube, and other big sites all fail at once, the likely cause is your network or a shared infrastructure provider, not X itself.
